OVERVIEW

The Workshop on Genetics of Reproduction and Research is designed to explore the fundamentals, advances, and applications of genetics in human and animal reproduction. Throughout this course, we will delve into the genetic aspects that influence fertility, embryonic development, and research techniques in this field.

METHODLOGY

The course will be conducted through theoretical lectures, case studies, and scientific article analysis.

Each class consists of a 45-minute lecture followed by a 15-minute discussion.
All classes will be translated to Spanish by copilot.

MEET THE FACULTY

Dr. José A. Horcajadas Almansa

Dr. José A. Horcajadas Almansa

Dr. José Horcajadas is a renowned biologist specializing in reproductive biology and genomics. He holds a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and has led numerous research projects focused on endometrial receptivity and embryo implantation. With over 70 scientific publications and 7 patents, Dr. Horcajadas has collaborated with leading fertility clinics and research institutions worldwide. He is also an experienced lecturer and a key contributor to advancements in assisted reproductive technologies. He has been founder of iGenomix, Recombine, SINAE, Fulgenomics, iGLS, HoMu Health Ventures and Overture Life. Currently, he serves as Scientific Director at different institutions.

Dr. Santiago Munne

Dr. Santiago Munne

President of HoMu Health Ventures, with >250 peer-reviewed scientific publications. He developed the first Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) for aneuploidy (1993), and co-founded Reprogenetics (PGT lab), Recombine (Carrier screening), MedAnswers and Phosphorus. He was CSO of CooperGenomics until 2017 and co- founder of Overture Life, a company focused on automating ART. Currently he is also the CSO of Progenesis.

Dr. David Cotán Marín

Dr. David Cotán Marín

Dr. David Cotán holds a degree in Environmental Sciences and a Ph.D. in Biotechnology from Pablo de Olavide University (Seville). He has built a distinguished career in biotechnology and biomedicine, with a focus on rare diseases, human reproduction, and enzyme scaling. He currently serves as Chief Scientific Officer (CSO) at HOMU Health Venture, where he leads cutting-edge research in health and biotechnology. In recent years, his work has been deeply connected to the study of the microbiome, particularly its role in reproductive and metabolic health. Through Pronacera Therapeutics, he has led pioneering projects analyzing the male and female reproductive microbiome, with the aim of understanding its impact on fertility and improving therapeutic strategies in assisted reproduction. He has also contributed to the development of advanced gut microbiome solutions, exploring its relationship with various diseases and its potential in personalized medicine. Dr. Cotán has presented his research at numerous international conferences and has played an active role in developing innovative diagnostic tools based on microbiota analysis. His interdisciplinary approach and dedication to applied research position him as a leading expert in the fields of biotechnology and microbiota.

Dr. Mili Thakur

Dr. Mili Thakur

Mili Thakur, MD, graduated with a M.B.B.S. degree from Government College Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh, India. She completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research in Chandigarh, India. During this time she was also a resident teaching fellow at the same institute. She also worked as the lady medical officer for Government Medical College and Hospital in Chandigarh, India. She then completed a residency program in obstetrics and genecology at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center. Afterward, she was in a combined fellowship at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center in reproductive endocrinology & infertility and medical genetics. Currently, she is a physician with Michigan Reproductive and IVF (The Fertility Center) in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She specializes in reproductive endocrinology and infertility as well as medical genetics.

With over 25 years of consulting experience in embryology, Dr. Anderson has been pivotal in shaping the direction of assisted reproductive technologies. His latest venture, Pozitivf Fertility, is a dynamic startup dedicated to integrating Toyota Production Systems into fertility care, ensuring cost-effective treatments and improved accessibility.
